What are the benefits of feeding my dog a natural diet?

A healthy, nutritious diet is important to maintaining good health and helping us feel our best. The same applies to our pets.

Good nutrition can support the immune system, improve energy levels, help maintain a healthy weight and contribute to your pet's overall health and wellbeing. Rotating ingredients and proteins may also help reduce food intolerances and allergies.

Our healthy, natural foods contain no fillers, preservatives, artificial flavours, colourings or additives.

Many pet owners notice improvements in coat condition, reduced shedding, fresher breath and increased enthusiasm at mealtimes.

Most importantly, you'll know exactly what your pet is eating.

Where are FYPO products made?

For Your Paws Only products are manufactured and produced locally in our store at Findon, South Australia.

We proudly use locally sourced Australian ingredients wherever possible and prepare our products fresh in-house.

Do you pack your products?

Yes, we do.

FYPO's fresh, natural products are manufactured and packaged in our own preparation kitchen to the highest standards of quality, presentation and food handling.

Every product is prepared and checked by our team to ensure your pet receives the very best.

What is the difference between FYPO chicken mince and chicken mince from my local butcher?

FYPO chicken mince is made from chicken frames after the legs, wings, fillets and internal organs have been removed.

The frames are processed through a specialised pet food mincer using a fine grinding plate which finely grinds the bone into the mince.

The mince may feel slightly gritty to the touch due to the finely ground bone content, which provides a natural source of calcium suitable for puppies and adult dogs.

Unlike standard butcher mince, FYPO chicken mince is specifically prepared for pet nutrition and raw feeding.

How do I store my FYPO products?

FYPO's fresh, natural products are manufactured and packaged to the highest quality standards.

It is important to store your pet's fresh food in the same way you would store food for your own family.

• Refrigerate all fresh products as soon as possible.
• Keep refrigerated at 0–3°C.
• Freeze products if they will not be used within the recommended storage period.

Recommended Storage Guide

Red Meat

• Refrigerator: 3–5 days
• Freezer: 4–6 months

Minced Meat & Offal

• Refrigerator: 2–3 days
• Freezer: 2–3 months

Poultry

• Refrigerator: 2–3 days
• Freezer: 2–3 months

Seafood

• Refrigerator: 2–3 days
• Freezer: 2–3 months

Meatloaves

• Refrigerate immediately.
• Use before the Best Before date.
• Once opened, consume within 3–4 days.

Bone Broth

• Refrigerate immediately.
• Use before the Best Before date.
• Once opened, consume within 5–7 days.

All FYPO products can be frozen. For convenience, portion meals into serving sizes before freezing.

How do I defrost my FYPO products and can I refreeze them?

We recommend defrosting products in the refrigerator.

You can partially defrost larger packs, divide them into meal-sized portions and refreeze immediately for convenience and freshness.

Always handle pet food hygienically and avoid leaving products at room temperature for extended periods.

How do I choose the right bone for my dog?

Bones are an important part of your dog's health and wellbeing. They help provide enrichment, entertainment and can assist with maintaining clean teeth.

When selecting a bone:

• Choose a size appropriate for your dog.
• The bone should be too large to swallow whole.
• It should be light enough for your dog to carry comfortably.
• The best bones encourage chewing and gnawing rather than rapid consumption.

If your dog has never had a raw bone before, always supervise them.

Never feed cooked bones.

Why can't I feed my pet cooked bones?

Cooked bones can become brittle and splinter easily, creating serious health risks.

When bones are cooked, they lose moisture, collagen and flexibility. This can cause them to break into sharp fragments when chewed.

These fragments can:

• Cause choking
• Damage teeth
• Injure the mouth and throat
• Cause serious internal injuries if swallowed

Whether baked, boiled, roasted, smoked or fried, cooked bones should never be fed to dogs.

Raw bones only.

Why is bone broth so good for dogs?

Bone broth is excellent for supporting joint health, digestive health and overall wellbeing.

It is especially beneficial for puppies, senior dogs and dogs recovering from illness.

Bone broth contains:

• Natural collagen
• Glucosamine
• Glycine
• Protein
• Vitamins and minerals

It can help support healthy joints, promote gut health, add moisture to meals and encourage fussy eaters to eat.

Many pet owners consider bone broth to be the canine equivalent of homemade chicken soup.

What if my pet doesn't like the food I've bought?

From fussy eaters to pets with special dietary requirements, we're here to help.

When introducing any new food, it is important to transition gradually to allow your pet time to become familiar with the new flavour and texture.

You may wish to try:

• Introducing the food slowly over several days
• Rotating proteins to discover favourites
• Adding a small amount of bone broth to increase aroma and flavour
• Trying different FYPO products and recipes

How much should I feed my dog?

Every dog is different. Feeding requirements depend on age, breed, body condition and activity level.

Activity Levels

Sedentary (2%)
Very little activity. Usually elderly, injured or unwell dogs.

Average (3%)
30–60 minutes of walking daily with moderate play.

High (4%)
Daily walks plus energetic exercise and play.

Working (5%)
Farm dogs, working dogs, agility dogs and highly active breeds.

We recommend dividing the daily food allowance into two meals per day to support digestion and help reduce the risk of bloat.

Why has my pet gone off their food?

There can be several reasons why a pet suddenly loses interest in food.

Illness

If your pet is also showing signs such as vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy or coughing, they may be unwell and should be assessed by a veterinarian.

Dental Issues

Painful teeth or gums can make eating uncomfortable. Regular dental care and appropriate chewing options can help maintain oral health.

Changes in Routine

Dogs thrive on routine. Changes to feeding times, travel, boarding, moving house or family changes can sometimes affect appetite.

Picky Eating

Some pets simply become bored with the same food or protein source over time. Rotating proteins or introducing new options can often help restore enthusiasm at mealtime.
